Ascoli Piceno in 20 seconds

Even though Ascoli Piceno is just the fourth largest town in the region of Marche, we deem it to be the most pretty of them all – sharing first place together with Urbino.

Ascoli is situated in a breathtakingly beautiful area in the southern part of Marche, very close to the border with Abruzzo.

“Ascoli Piceno is one of the most beautiful small towns in all of Italy, and I don’t see any other like it”, Guido Piovene wrote in his book “Travel to Italy” in 1957.

How to reach Ascoli

By car

It is easy to reach Ascoli if you are driving in a car, since the city is located outside of the subtle but incredibly beautiful hilly terrain of Marche.

By using the A14 highway you can reach San Benedetto del Tronto, and from there you will continue on towards Ascoli, taking the exit near Marino del Tronto, which leads you into the eastern part of the village.

If you are making the journey from Rome, you should take the exit headed for the A24 highway and Teramo, and from there travel towards Ancona on the A14 highway. If you prefer driving on smaller roads you can also reach Ascoli by driving on the SS4, which offers a shorter distance than the highway, but with significantly more hills and turns.

The city is an old medieval town, which means there are all kinds of ancient and impressive buildings. Here you can experience various duomos (cathedrals and churches) in different styles.

Rua delle Stelle

There’s hardly anything better than a stroll along romantic Rua delle Stelle, after a visit to the Piazza del Popolo. It is one of the most fascinating streets in the city, and in the whole region of Marche. Rua delle Stelle is actually a path which you will find in the historical center of the city.

A part of this path snakes alongside the Tronto River, starting at Porta di Borgo Solesta, passing the Porta Romana district before arriving at what was once the church of Santa Maria delle Stelle.
