Sirmione is one of the most popular destinations on Lake Garda and a city that every year, mainly during the summer holidays, is visited by sun-hungry people from cooler northern Europe.

You will find the city on the southern shore of Lake Garda, where it opens onto the long isthmus that branches into the lake.
As mentioned, the city is located at the south of the lake, so you turn off at Lago di Garda Sud, and then you take the SR450 and continue for 13 kilometers until you hit the SR11 and continue towards Sirmione.
The airport in Verona is approximately 20 kilometers from Sirmione but most people land in either Milano or Bergamo.
From Bergamo Airport, Orio al Serio, it’s less than an hour’s drive. While it takes approximately 2 hours from one of the two airports in Milan.
By train
There are no trains to Sirmione, but if you are going by train, that is not a problem. Whether you are coming from Verona or Milano/Bergamo, there are trains to Desenzano from where you can take the bus.
The bus stops at Via Colombare, from where there is one kilometer to Sirmione.

The peninsula divides the southern shore of Lake Garda into two parts. The two bays at Desenzano and Peschiera del Garda are divided by the peninsula, which is called Sirmione.
The thermal waters of Sirmione are known to be healing.
The city is popular, and it is no wonder, because there is a mild climate most of the year. I have visited the city in January, where we we able to sit outside in the sunshine, in autumn, when it was still summer, and in summer, when the temperature easily exceeds 40 degrees.
There is hardly a town around Lake Garda that is not familiar with this phenomenon, regardless of whether it is in the north or south of the lake.
As previously mentioned, Sirmione is one of the most popular destinations, not just on Lake Garda, but indeed in the whole of Italy.
Before Covid-19, i.e. in 2019, more than 1.2 million tourists visited the city, which is not very big, or wide, for that matter.
Most tourists come in the summer, of course, but due to the aforementioned mild climate, the city is a destination for visitors all year round.
The city’s biggest and best-known attraction is the Scaligero castle, which is surrounded by the lake’s clear water. The castle is among the 30 most visited historical sites in Italy.
Scaligero dates to the 13th century and is typical example of defense from that time. The castle was commissioned by Mastino Della Scala, who had to defend his domain.
The shielded towers are a unique example of one of the oldest harbor fortifications in Europe.
